Geneinno Titan Underwater Drone

In case you like to sip your cocktails while shooting underwater images or videos, or if circumstances do not allow one a safe dive, an underwater drone might be a possible solution.

The Titan underwater drone made by Geneinno is equipped with a 1/2.5-inch CMOS sensor to capture 8MP still photos and 4K video (with a fixed lens angle of 160°), and it can also stream a 1080p live view to the handheld controller. Two 1500-lumen lights help to bring light into the depths.

Its 9000mAh, 10.8-volt battery delivers a runtime of four hours per charge. The Titan can operate at depths up to 150m (492ft). Its maximum speed is 2m per second. Six controllable thrusters allow easy control of the drone. The Titan dimensions are 390 x 347 x 165mm and it weighs 4.4kg.

Fantasea NP-FW50 Battery Cradle A

For owners of Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras, Fantasea has designed a battery cradle that holds one additional Sony NP-FW50 battery (of the Sony Alpha and NEX series), doubling battery life, and thus avoiding the necessity of replacing camera batteries between dives.

The cradle unit connects itself to the camera’s micro-USB port and is stored together with the camera in the housing. The cradle is compatible with the Fantasea line of mirrorless camera housings but can be used with housings of other brands as well, as long as the housing provides enough space. In length, width and height, the cradle’s dimensions are 55 x 37 x 25mm (2.16 x 1.46 x 0.98in).

Waterproof SSDs from Sony

It happens to us all—we drop stuff, or spill something. Underwater photographers, who often will find themselves transferring or editing images in moist environments or close to water, will be reassured that butterfingers need not have catastrophic consequences.

Sony’s new highspeed external SSD drives are both dust and waterproof, and the USB-C port does not even require a cover to maintain protection. The drives can withstand being submerged in one meter of water up to 30 minutes, take a drop from three meters, and withstand 13,227 pounds of pressure. The drives come in 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB storage configurations. Pricing has not been released yet, and the drives are expected to ship in summer 2019.

Aquatica Monitor 5HD

Do you also struggle a bit looking through the viewfinder or seeing what is displayed on the rear panel of your camera?

If so, rescue may be at hand in the shape of Aquatica’s external monitors, which provide a Full HD 1920x1080 resolution. The monitor supports focus peaking and false colour to assist in focusing and proper exposure. The colour temperature is adjustable. The sunshade can easily be detached without the use of tools. The monitor is compatible with housings from other manufacturers using a 16mm bulkhead. The aluminum housing is depth-rated to 100m.

KELDAN Remote control

When I spotted this strange-looking, boxy gadget in Keldan’s booth at the Boot show in Düsseldorf, I had to inquire what it was. It turned out to be the prototype of an upcoming videolight controller with which the imagemaker can remotely adjust the output of two videolights directly from the camera housing.

The principle is similar to the remote flash triggers, which are frequently used in photo studios, wherein the controller is mounted in the camera’s hot-shoe and used to balance various remote flashes placed elsewhere. In the same manner, this unit also controls the output of each video light separately. The two lower dials—one for each light—simply turn the power up and down. The main difference from the studio flash controllers is that this unit controls video lights and wirelessly connects to them using ultrasound rather than radio waves.

Snoots for Inon flashes

The Snoot Set for the Inon Z-330 and D-200 strobes allows for six different beam coverages from approximately 20° to 80°.

The set features an aluminum sleeve that screws onto the strobes’ threaded heat sink, and a telescopic rubber hood that fits onto the sleeve, and accepts either of the two included 1-inch diameter and 0.4-inch diameter brushed-aluminum snoots.

Ricoh WG-6

Ricoh’s latest top-of-the-line waterproof camera is depth-rated to 20m (65ft). It features a 20MP sensor, 28-140mm F3.5-5.5 lens and a built-in macro ring light.

The six-LED ring light unit positioned around the lens allows for the use of a faster shutter speed to minimize camera shake and subject shake in macro and close-up photography. This feature also allows the photographer to choose specific LEDs to illuminate a subject more three-dimensionally and emphasize its delicate contours. The WG-6 has a built-in GPS and electronic compass, a 3-inch (non-touch) LCD, remote control receiv-ers on the front and back and a USB-C socket. It is also capable of capturing 4K/30 video.
