Join Wetpixel on a trip to the Red Sea

Wetpixel's photography trip to the Red Sea aboard the Liveaboard MY Vip One will be led by Wetpixel Publisher Adam Hanlon.

Join Wetpixel in diving and photographing one of the planet’s most rich and diverse marine environments. The Egyptian Red Sea, with its abundance of shallow fringing reefs, offers the opportunity to capture stunning underwater imagery. The confluence of nutrient-rich currents in the area makes for fantastic underwater scenery and many photographic subjects. The area boasts over 1,200 recorded species of fish, 1,000 invertebrate species, and 200 types of soft and hard coral.

The area has been a trade route for shipping for centuries, and as a result, boasts fantastic coral-encrusted historical wrecks. These offer unique imaging opportunities, as the visibility is typically excellent, and they are frequently covered in vibrant marine life.

The diving is an exotic mixture of wide-angle and macro subjects, offering a truly staggering amount of fantastic diving. Like all Wetpixel trips, we aim to optimize the diving to suit image-makers’ needs and make them as productive as possible.

MY VIP ONE:

We will be diving from the boutique liveaboard dive vessel, VIP ONE. The ship and her crew are well-known for having the knowledge and experience to best cater to demanding image-makers. Uniquely, it has only 16 berths. This allows for unique flexibility and for fewer divers in the water at the same time, which enhances photographic opportunities.

Itinerary:

22 May to 29 May 2022 (7 nights) 29 May to 5 June 2022 (7 nights)

Feel free to join us for either week or both!

Both trips will embark and disembark onto VIP One in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt, and will initially head out for an orientation dive on one of the local reefs. Once we have done so, our itinerary will be determined by local conditions but will likely start by steaming south.

At the confluence of the Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba is the amazing Ras Mohamed. Typically this has great schools of fish and is incredibly photogenic. Depending on conditions at the time, we will probably plan to then head to the world-class wreck of SS Thistelgorm, an iconic and very photogenic large wreck.

At this point, we will either keep moving south towards the wrecks at Abu Nuhas or back north upon to the straits of Tiran, with its amazing reefs and corals.

More critically, as we are chartering the whole boat, we will go where the conditions are best and most productive for image-making.

This trip will be led by Wetpixel Publisher Adam Hanlon.

You will need to book your own airfare to Sharm el-Sheik.

Payments and fees:

The trip is competitively priced at $1,600/person. There is limited availability.
