ABOUT YAP: Yap is an island in the Federated States of Micronesia, in the Pacific Ocean that is ringed by spectacular coral reefs and famous for its scuba diving with giant manta rays, sharks and mandarin fish. Other key activities on the island include kayaking, hiking, deep-sea fishing and exploring the many World War II historical sites. Yap is also uniquely famous for its stone money (huge disks of stone, which are still used today in major transactions), strong traditional culture and way of life, and welcoming residents. A short flight away from Guam or Palau, this Pacific gem is one of the tourism industry’s best kept secrets. For more information: www.visityap.com.

Yap is the cover story and has a 21-page colorful spread in the August 2024 edition of X-Ray Mag, the world’s largest digital scuba diving magazine. The European-based publication has close to 200,000 readers worldwide and its latest copy showcases Yap’s varied scuba diving product, as well as its unique cultural and land-based attractions.

The highlight piece entitled “Seven Perfect Days Diving with Mantas and More,” primarily focuses on Yap’s tropical reefs that are teeming with diverse marine life, including majestic manta rays. Some of Yap’s topside tourism activities are also covered in the article, including kayaking the mangroves, hiking the Tamilyog Trail, discovering stone money and viewing a traditional dance. The second feature that appears in the Magazine is a detailed profile of Bill Acker, Yap’s tourism and scuba diving pioneer and the founder of Manta Ray Bay Resort and Yap Divers.

The content for the main article was contributed by world renowned underwater photographer David Fleetham, whose award-winning work has been featured in publications such as National Geographic and Life Magazine. David is a frequent visitor to Yap and will be one of six (6) photo pros participating in the upcoming 17th annual MantaFest photo festival, which runs from August 24th to September 8th, 2024.
