Last chance to enter 2021 'Underbathwater Photographer of the Year' competition

Fourth Element - the UK-based thermal protection manufacturer - came up with the idea in April 2020 with the aim of lifting divers' spirits, whilst they remained at home during the first British Government lockdown.

The idea was simple. Take the best photo you can underwater in your bathtub. And if you don't have a bath, just get creative. A sink, bucket, water butt or just about anything that can hold water was perfectly acceptable.

Back in 2020, we challenged underwater photographers—many of whom found themselves stuck inside or unable to go diving during the pandemic—to search through their image archives and match a topside shot with one of their own underwater shots, in a side-by-side comparison.

From October to Novem­ber of 2020, the Japan National Tourism Organ­ization (JNTO) held its second annual Japan Underwater Photo Contest, seeking photos taken by divers that showcase the undiscovered beauty and artistry of diving in Japan to the world.

Call for entries: Lens Beyond Ocean photo competition

Indeed, this year’s prizes worth US$25,000 do not disappoint, comprising dive travel packages to some of the best locations in Asia as well as top-of-the-line dive equipment and underwater camera gear. Judges of this year’s competition include renowned underwater photographers Tobias Friedrich of Germany, Jason Isley of the United Kingdom and Nurul Yazid of Malaysia.
