Enjoy eclectic style and SCUBA at newly launched Ocean Treasure hotel

An off-the-radar hideaway hotel has just opened its doors to divers.

The building has been an integral part of Lauderdale by the Sea since 1957

The Floridian located 'Ocean Treasure Beachside Suites' is the latest creation of dedicated diver Woody Alpern. It is obvious to all who meet Alpern that he is an enthusiastic educator, hence he has received 12 PADI Excellence awards for teaching. Alpern is an instructor trainer for PADI and SSI, and an ardent KISS rebreather instructor. He has taken his experience of what the travelling diver needs and applied it to the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea based hotel.

The beachside hotel - formerly the Sand Dollar - has been thoroughly renovated and completely updated to maximise space and the Atlantic ocean views.

We have designed every aspect of the hotel with recreational scuba divers, technical scuba divers and free divers in mind. Woody Alpern

The beautifully appointed, all-suite guest rooms blend striking decor and home comforts with decent dive amenities. Thought has gone into the layout of the building because many of the suites can be conjoined to accommodate families and / or large groups.

Practical Solutions

A number of small details have been put in place to make the hotel user friendly to the less able bodied. A lift makes it easier for guests to access the pool and one of the suites has been designed to be handicapped accessible (ADA). A further two guest rooms are 'visually impaired friendly'.

External Facilities

Ocean Treasure is literally on the beach, hence guests have access and use of a private patio, beach, and an outdoor seating and lounging area that has a ready-to-use BBQ.

Some of the best shore diving in the Continental USA can be dived from our beach. Woody Alpern

The 2.2 m / 7’6” heated pool can be used by visiting divers and instructors, or guests can just head down the beach and access a snorkel trail or shore dive the local reefs.

Dive Facilities

A number of kit benches have been strategically placed on the beach making it easier for divers to don and doff their equipment. No one particularly likes sleeping with their gear in their bedroom, therefore guests will be allocated a private dive lock that can accommodate two sets of equipment. And there is no need for divers to fill their shower with kit to wash it off at the end of a trip - rinse tanks and a handy fresh water shower have been provided.

Woody Alpern has stated that the hotel will deliver cylinders to guests dive lockers. "Just let us know how many tanks you need and the gas mix you desire and it will be awaiting you in front of your dive locker marked with your name on them." Techs have not been forgotten. You just need to request what sorb and oxygen fills you require.

For those of us who are not mad shore divers, it's simple to book boat dives. "Big life, small life, wrecks, recreational depths, technical depths, you name it and it’s offered right in our area", confirmed Wood Alpern.

Ocean Treasure KISS Weekend

One of the first events that Ocean Treasure will be hosting is a KISS weekend at the end of February. This three day event will encompass shore and boat diving, a mini technician service clinic by Mike Young of KISS rebreathers, and a Cookout. Divers will be able to jump onto a recreational or tech boat, and non-divers are welcome. If you would like to join in with fun, contact 'Ocean Treasure Beachside Suites' to secure a precious place.

Dates: Friday 28 February - Sunday 1 March 2020.
