After graduating with a degree in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano, Angheleddu specialized in interior design at an architecture studio, where he amassed a great deal of knowledge and experience in 3D digital modeling. He developed the concept of digital representation of not just the end product of a project, but each stage of refinement along the way in the process, starting with the initial idea, or “seed”, from which the ideal shape would develop.

X-RAY MAG: Tell us about yourself, your background, where you are from and how you became an artist.

DD: I am a professional artist based in a little town called Russell in the middle of the beautiful Bay of Islands in New Zealand. I live with my husband and my 10-month-old son. I originally come from the Czech Republic. I have always specialized in painting with oils, but after my son was born, I changed medium and started to use watercolors instead, as it better suits my new lifestyle. I also paint with acrylics when I work on murals.

I intend to depict the true beauty and richness of the ocean through my art, and I hope that it will lead people to respect and converse about marine life.

Artists see and experience the world differently. And with their work, they lend the audience their eyes. I can think of nothing more important in the world than expanding one’s reality and seeing things from another perspective.

"Anytime you truly celebrate the visual beauty of something through art, you give it an importance that it may not have had for a lot of people—helping them appreciate it in a new way and start to consider how valuable that thing is." — Derek DeYoung

“Every year, I come up with a concept of study and art as a project for myself. Luckily, I have never lost my passion and interest in nature. I have been diving for over 44 years, logging some 26,000 dives already, but still I dive every day. I have only one life to live, so I want to see more and more. And I want to explain and show people, more and more, how there is so much beauty in the underwater world.”

Robert Paris Portfolio

Originally from Virginia, American artist Robert Paris grew up loving the outdoors and the natural world around him. After a career in graphic design working with marketing groups, he decided to give up the corporate life and pursue his passion for painting. Today, if he’s not fishing or gardening, he is creating sublime watercolors of fish and acrylic paintings of marine environments, with some close-up compositions of water and reflections so photo-realistic that they become nearly abstract in color and form.

I began my 'Love the Water' prints so that I could start a dialogue with people about the importance of our oceans. I meet a lot of people during art shows—most of them tourists—and it’s easy to connect with them through my illustrations.

X-RAY MAG: Tell us about yourself, your background and how you became an artist.

CS: I grew up in England. As a young girl I attended private art classes where I created detailed wildlife studies in various media. My father, an incredibly talented artist, inspired and encouraged me from the time I first began drawing as a toddler.

It’s up to us human beings, as the most successful life form on Earth, to cherish and protect our planet. Don’t take things for granted... Have respect for other life forms, some of which have been around for millennia and are suddenly endangered because of our recklessness, selfishness and short sightedness.

— Carolyn Steele
