We reported yesterday - Monday 25 February 2019 - that diving operations had commenced to recover two cave divers who died earlier this month.

We have just been advised in the last few minutes by Mike Young, one of the lead cave diving experts, that both bodies have been successfully recovered from Dudú Lagoon, Dominican Republic. It was also confirmed that the dive team are safe and well.

Two USA Experts

The two American divers involved were Mike Young of KISS Rebreathers and Edd Sorenson from Cave Adventurers. The respected duo are highly experienced cave explorers - they have both pushed cave systems and found virgin passageway. In addition Young and Sorenson had conducted a number of body recoveries, prior to this one.

Young and Sorenson were supported by divers from the Dominican Republic Speleological Society (DRSS) and the Dominican Naval Auxiliary (Luca Onion, Franco Incarnate, Tineo Camacho, Francesco Donatelli).

fund has been launched to cover the out-of-pocket expenses for Young and Sorenson. It is believed that these will amount to approximately US$6,000. At the time of writing this, US$4,110 has been raised. Any donation to the USA based 'Underwater Cave Rescue Relief Fund' would be much appreciated and any extra monies raised will be held and used to help fund future rescues.
