Scuba Diver License Plates Are Coming to Texas!

Posted in:

Press Release

Scuba divers in the state of Texas will have a new way to display their pride in the sport; A soon-to-be-available Scuba diver license plate.

Texas vehicles can soon sport this recently approved SCUBA diver license plate.
Factfile

CHUM (City of Houston Underwater Mariners), a very active Houston-based SCUBA club, was founded in 2004.

The club hosts monthly meetings (currently via Zoom), local diving, dive trips, and Houston’s “dive buddy board” and can be found online at chumclub.org.

The plate design will be offered for sale by My Plates, the official TxDMV-approved private vendor for specialty license plates in Texas.

Development of the plate was sponsored by CHUM – Houston’s SCUBA club, but there was broad grassroots support for the concept from SCUBA divers, dive clubs, and dive shops from every corner of the state.

Texas has 200,000+ active divers, making it the third largest diving state in the US, behind California and Florida. The state offers a wide range of diving opportunities including pristine offshore coral reefs, crystal-clear Hill Country springs, a growing number of artificial reef projects and more. Texas even has an old missile silo that can be dived.

With a tentative launch date in June, the diver plates could be on Texas vehicles within a few months.

Pre-orders are currently available for those who want to be among the first to receive their Texas SCUBA Diver license plate on the link listed below
