RESA and RTC are in concord over training standards

November 29, 2018 - 12:37

A productive meeting was held on Tuesday 13 November 2018 in Las Vegas, on the eve of the DEMA Show, between RESA and the RTC.

Prior to this meeting the Rebreather Education and Safety Association (RESA) and the Rebreather Training Council (RTC) had been having a robust active discussion about industry wide rebreather training standards. It seemed sensible therefore to take the opportunity for the two organisations to find a common path forward.

Mark Caney from PADI and the RTC stated "The key item to come out of this meeting was an agreement for a joint committee to look at standards issued by both organisations, and work objectively towards a harmonisation of standards.

In the interest of all parties in the dive industry, if we can agree on standards between all the major players, this will benefit not only the dive professionals involved, but current and future divers."

Why is this important?

Industry agreement on standards is an important part of self-regulation. It helps to avoid unnecessary Government intervention / regulation and improves liability protections.
