“Mini “ High-definition Underwater Camera

Posted in:

October 8, 2014, Ocean Presence Technologies (OPT) announces two new high-definition underwater cameras. “Earlier this year we announced the first of the high-speed 60 frames per second cameras. Now we are very excited to announce an extremely small 1080p high-definition underwater camera,” says OPT’s President Robert Aston.

The OPT-14 is our smallest and most affordable full HD underwater camera. The remote-head camera housing has a diameter of only 1.5 inches.

The OPT-14 fixed-lens camera comes in two models. The AquariCam™ model is designed for discreet placements in small aquariums, pools or tanks. The OceanCam® version is designed for use in the open ocean with a depth capability of 300 feet. This makes it ideal for deployment on sub-sea research stations or on ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles).

“Each year IP cameras make significant advances in video resolution, frame rate and image processing while decreasing in size and cost. The OPT-14 contains the most advanced fixed lens full high-definition camera in an extremely small body,” says Robert Aston.

The OPT-14 is small in size but very powerful in its capabilities. On-board you will find some of the most advanced image processing to date. Low light, poor visibility, depth, salinity and temperature extremes all challenge sub-sea cameras. Several features combine to improve image capture in these demanding conditions. Tools include WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) processing, white balance, defog and image stabilization for reduced image blur.

The camera also features an internal DVR (digital video recorder) with a maximum memory capacity of 64 GB capable of recording over 48 hours of high-definition video at 30 frames per second. The low power requirement of the cameras enables remote battery-powered installations. The “remote head” camera makes possible many uses not possible with the earlier larger cameras. At a fraction of the cost of other 1080p cameras, the OPT-14 is highly affordable without compromising underwater reliability and is suitable for multi-camera installations.

Samples of underwater video can be viewed from the Animal Planet’s SharkCam in the Blacktip Shark Exhibit of the National Aquarium in Baltimore (http://www.apl.tv/sharks.htm).
