Sidemount closed-circuit rebreather designed for streamlined technical diving
Kiss Sidewinder 2
The KISS Sidewinder 2 is the latest generation of the manufacturer’s sidemount closed-circuit rebreather platform, developed for technical and exploration divers operating in caves, wrecks and other overhead environments. Compared with the original Sidewinder, the new model introduces a number of structural and functional updates aimed at improving flexibility and endurance.
One of the most notable changes is a modular design that allows the unit to be configured in three ways: traditional sidemount, backmount with a single cylinder, or chest-mounted for specialised environments. This versatility allows divers to adapt the same core rebreather system to different dive scenarios.
At the centre of the redesign is a new crossflow scrubber system, a configuration not previously used in other rebreathers. The updated scrubber provides greater absorbent capacity than the earlier model and has been CE certified for 220 minutes of operation in 4 °C water, supporting longer and more demanding dives.
The system retains the manufacturer’s mechanical CCR (mCCR) philosophy, where oxygen is added through a manual constant-flow system rather than relying solely on automated electronics. At the same time, the Sidewinder 2 introduces improved sensor protection, with oxygen sensors and connections shielded from water exposure and optional space for a CO₂ sensor.
Additional refinements include an adjustable automatic diluent valve resistance, allowing divers to tune breathing characteristics to personal preference. The compact sidemount layout distributes weight along the diver’s body, improving trim and mobility while remaining lightweight and easy to disassemble for travel.
The Sidewinder 2 is intended for trained CCR divers seeking a flexible, expedition-ready rebreather platform capable of adapting to multiple diving configurations.
