Buddy Dive Resort Bonaire is introducing the Bonaire Shore Diver Specialty Course, a unique new program designed to help certified divers safely and confidently experience Bonaire's world-renowned shore diving. Developed in-house by Buddy Dive Resort Bonaire, the Bonaire Shore Diver Specialty Course is designed specifically around the unique conditions and diving culture that make Bonaire a world-renowned shore diving destination.
Bonaire has long been recognized as one of the world's premier shore diving destinations, offering easy access to vibrant reefs, clearly marked dive sites, and the freedom to explore independently. While this self-guided style of diving is one of the island's biggest attractions, it also requires divers to understand local conditions, navigation techniques, marine park regulations, and the logistics that make shore diving both safe and enjoyable. The Bonaire Shore Diver Specialty Course was created to provide exactly that knowledge.
The full-day course combines classroom instruction with two practical training dives at different shore dive sites. During the theory session, participants learn about Bonaire National Marine Park regulations, independent dive planning, navigation using both natural references and a compass, shore entry and exit techniques, emergency procedures, equipment setup, and considerations for night diving. The two guided dives allow students to immediately apply these skills in real-world conditions under the guidance of a Buddy Dive instructor.
By the end of the course, divers will be able to independently plan and execute shore dives, use Bonaire's iconic yellow stones and dive site markers to identify entry and exit points, navigate confidently underwater, and manage vehicles, tanks, and equipment for successful multi-dive days. Throughout the program, a strong emphasis is placed on responsible diving practices that help protect Bonaire's internationally recognized marine environment.
The Bonaire Shore Diver Specialty Course is open to certified divers of all experience levels, making it an excellent introduction for first-time visitors while also offering experienced divers valuable local knowledge that enhances both safety and enjoyment. Participants must be at least 10 years old and hold a Junior Open Water Diver certification or higher.
Priced at US$200, the course includes a full day of instruction, two guided training dives, and a 25% discount on the Bonaire Reef Smart Guide, available through the Buddy Dive retail shop. The guide features detailed dive site maps, suggested routes, local stories, and practical information to help divers continue exploring Bonaire long after completing the course.
