The body has not yet been formally identified, but it is probable that it is the missing teenage snorkeller Oscar Montgomery. The Police have advised his family has been informed. If formal identification confirms this is Montgomery, it will help give the family closure.

Montgomery went missing near Church Ope Cove, Portland, on 27 May. A number of assets were tasked and conducted an extensive search in the area, following an alarm call that the 17-year-old was missing.

It is quite possible that the body had become trapped in kelp or caught underneath a rocky ledge. Earlier this week, the area had strong northeasterly winds—this weather might have helped release the body.

Chief Inspector Neil Wood of Dorset Police stated, "Our thoughts are with Oscar's family and loved ones at what must be a tremendously difficult time for them and we will support them in any way we can. I would like to thank all those who shared our appeal and everyone involved in the search efforts."
